Celtic and Rangers football clubs out of Glasgow, Scotland are looking
for a new league. Yes, the perennial powerhouses of Scottish football
again are thinking of moving on. The latest episode that has most
definitely pushed this point of contention forward is the latest
tv contract. Which has seen the league have to eat a lot of monies,
because of the financial problems with Setanta Sports. Leaving
the league and teams with a lot less monies than had been
anticipated.
Celtic and Rangers wanted a different plan in the beginning with
a different carrier whom they believed would grant them
better international exposure and better financial promise in the
future. It never materialized. Thus the current strain of the teams
with lower than anticipated tv revenues. Making it more inviting than
ever for Celtic or the Rangers to become the dark horse promised
children of the Premier League. Or, the breakthrough of a new Super
League with powerhouse clubs from smaller European Leagues
wanting to have better and stronger financial positions.
All this will hurt the SPL ( Scottish Premier League ) I love,
but ultimately will make the sport stronger and hopefully
allow other current SPL teams to become strong within themselves
and not be so dependant on Celtic or the Rangers for revenue or
say so.
Whatever happens, I hope it happens sooner rather than later.
That way changes can be made and opportunities considered
for all sides in their plans for the future.
Good Luck SPL.
